You may have read in this week’s Ham & High that Belsize is set to get a new sub post office nearly two years after the last one in this area was closed, causing outrage among residents. A source close to the negotiations told the Ham & High that a site had been identified and that the Post Office had given the plan a green light.
Belsize Lib Dem councillor Alexis Rowell, who’s understood to be involved in the negotiations, said: “I’m sorry I can’t say much at present. We did promise we’d fight to get postal facilities back to Belsize and we’ve never given up.”
Tom Simon, the Lib Dem councillor elected in the by-election last year, said “I stood in the Belsize by-election on a platform of returning a post office to the area and have been fighting hard for it. So many local people tell us that getting postal facilities back is their key priority. I’m sure they’ll be delighted by this great news”.
